Jewelry Care

Different materials need different care. Check the materials listed on the product page and, for mixed-material pieces, follow the instructions for the most delicate material.

Everyday care

  • Put jewelry on after perfume, hairspray, lotion, sunscreen, and makeup have dried.
  • Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, sleeping, or using household cleaners.
  • After wearing, wipe each piece gently with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Store pieces separately in a cool, dry place to reduce scratching, tangling, and exposure to moisture.
  • Avoid bleach, chlorine, abrasive powders, toothpaste, baking soda, chemical dips, and hard brushes.
  • Do not use steam or ultrasonic cleaners on mixed-material pieces, pearls, amber, resin, or jewelry with an unknown treatment.

925 sterling silver

Sterling silver can naturally tarnish when exposed to air, moisture, cosmetics, and skin oils. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. For plain, unplated sterling silver, use a silver polishing cloth with light pressure when needed.

Do not use silver polish on gold-plated areas, pearls, amber, resin, gemstones, or intentionally darkened finishes.

Gold-plated sterling silver

Gold plating can gradually wear where a piece rubs against skin, clothing, or other jewelry. Clean plated pieces only with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid polishing compounds, silver dips, abrasive cloths, and vigorous rubbing, as these can remove or dull the plated finish.

Freshwater and shell pearls

Pearl surfaces are sensitive to acids, abrasives, heat, and prolonged moisture. Wipe pearls gently after each wear. If needed, use a barely damp soft cloth, then dry them immediately.

  • Do not soak pearls or clean them with steam, ultrasonic equipment, silver polish, or chemical jewelry cleaners.
  • Keep pearls away from perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, and household chemicals.
  • Store pearl pieces separately from harder jewelry. Lay strung pearl pieces flat rather than hanging them.

Amber

Amber is an organic material that can be scratched and affected by heat, alcohol, perfume, and cleaning chemicals. Wipe it with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth and dry it immediately. Do not soak amber or expose it to hot water, steam, ultrasonic cleaning, or prolonged direct sunlight.

Lapis lazuli

Clean lapis lazuli with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth, then dry it immediately. Do not soak it. Avoid acids, chemical cleaners, steam, ultrasonic equipment, and abrasive polishing products.

Tiger's eye, spinel, and quartz

Wipe these stones with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. For visible residue, use a small amount of mild soap on the cloth only when the piece's setting allows, then wipe again with a clean damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals, extreme heat, steam, and ultrasonic cleaning because stone treatments and settings can vary.

Resin

Wipe resin gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Keep it away from alcohol, acetone, perfume, hot water, high heat, and prolonged sunlight. Store it separately to help prevent surface scratches.
